B.C. Government announces five-week closure of Trans Canada Highway near Golden

Plans to continue widening the Trans Canada Highway east of Golden, B.C. were made public last week by the British Columbia government.

In a press release that landed in the public domain on Friday, Jan. 15, details were outlined regarding the road construction project that will transform a five-kilometre stretch of the this main thoroughfare from two to four lanes.

It’s actually Phase 4 of the incredibly challenging Kicking Horse Canyon Project. The most recent announcement confirmed the dates that will see the Highway 1 closed for approximately five weeks this spring.

Q & A with our clients!

At BCgolfguide, we frequently receive interesting questions from our clients.

Overwhelmingly, the queries arrive in the “additional notes” section as part of our “Create Your Golf Package” online form.

We’ll share a couple of recent questions with you today.

QUESTION: Is my golf trip going to be more expensive in 2022?

BCGG: It really does depend on the region you choose to visit. But in a general sense, sadly, that may be the case.

Many facilities experienced high demand during 2021, with some intermittent lulls due to travel restrictions imposed by various provincial governments. This had an impact on “tourist” activity, though local play was strong in most regions across western Canada.

BCgolfguide is already hearing from hotels and golf courses that they are hiking rates.

Some “Page-Turners” for the Holiday Season

We tossed up a few movies for your consideration in our last BCgolfguide BLOG entry, with the Holiday Season fast approaching.

This time around, we have something for folks who might prefer an old school concept – reading a book!

Here are a handful of my favourites for your consumption.

The Real Monty (2002): Colin Montgomerie was a polarizing figure in professional golf, but his autobiography provided some incredible insight.

He won the European Tour Order of Merit seven straight times between 1993 and 1999, then again in 2005. However, many onlookers ignore this amazing feat. They choose instead to suggest he never did validated that greatness by winning in the USA on the PGA Tour. Nor did he ever win a major championship.

If not for a chance round of golf with a pair of agents from IMG, Monty may never have pursued playing the tour. It’s a terrific story in itself, one of many interesting snippets he shares.

An absolute star in the Ryder Cup, folks in British Columbia may also remember Monty as quite an entertainer during the week he appeared in the 2008 Telus Skins Game at Predator Ridge.
